Alice Geary
Communications Specialist
Ōtepoti Dunedin📍
Alice joined the Whirika team in early 2026 from the Department of Conservation, bringing with her over a decade of communications experience including marketing, publicity, internal communications and journalism. Originally from Oxford, UK, she moved to New Zealand in 2019 to pursue a greater balance between work and getting into the great outdoors.
After graduating from the University of Southampton with a Bachelors in English Studies, Alice worked at a public relations agency in London. During her years there, she honed her skills in planning and implementing promotional strategies; identifying strong stories; and recognising risks and opportunities to meet client goals.
Since moving to New Zealand, she has led communications strategies for the Dunedin Fringe Arts Trust and Te Whatu Ora Southern, and developed communications plans and materials as part of her roles at the Department of Conservation.
Alice is passionate about impact-led storytelling that supports positive environmental and community outcomes. Outside of work, she enjoys rock climbing, hot yoga, reading and tramping (especially where her dog, Cobalt, can come too!)
