Carl joined Whirika in December 2024, bringing over a decade of experience in energy efficiency and carbon reduction. Before merging with Whirika, Carl spent ten years at Emsol, where he worked extensively with large industrial facilities, focusing on process heat and refrigeration systems. His expertise spans both private sector enterprises—particularly in the food sector—and local government, delivering impactful energy and carbon management programs.
Motivated by engaging with like-minded people, problem-solving, and achieving measurable results that provide both economic and environmental benefits, Carl has led numerous successful projects. His long-term collaboration with Whakatane District Council has contributed to over 800 tonnes of CO2 reduction and more than $0.5 million in energy cost savings. He also maintains ongoing, long-term partnership with companies like EastPack, where his efforts have led to a 30% improvement in energy efficiency since 2017.
Beyond work, Carl juggles his many interests, including football, fishing, and robotics. Based in Tauranga, he’s actively involved with the Otūmoetai Football Club as both a player and Head Coach of the senior womens team, as well as an Executive for FC Tauranga Moana.
